Meta Platforms Inc. has announced the creation of a new superintelligence research laboratory named Scale AI, appointing Alexandr Wang, CEO of Scale AI, to lead the company's superintelligence development efforts. According to information made public on June 13, 2025, Meta is investing four billion dollars in Scale AI and plans to spend hundreds of billions more in the coming years to achieve artificial superintelligence. Superintelligence refers to an advanced AI system that not only equals human intelligence but far surpasses it, capable of independently solving tasks currently only humans can perform, such as scientific research, technological innovation, or complex problem-solving.
According to The New York Times, Mark Zuckerberg, Meta's CEO, is personally overseeing the project and has poached dozens of AI specialists from leading technology companies including Apple, Google, and OpenAI in recent months. Based on information from Times of India, Zuckerberg intends to spend hundreds of billions of dollars on this initiative, aiming for Meta to take a leading role in superintelligence development, ahead of competitors like OpenAI or Google DeepMind. Meta is already at the forefront of open-source AI model development with its Llama series, and according to the company, establishing the Scale AI laboratory is a logical next step in developing even more advanced AI systems.
According to Nasdaq's report, Meta's four billion dollar investment gives it a minority stake in Scale AI, which will maintain its independence after the transaction and continue collaborating with other technology companies. Alexandr Wang, who became a billionaire at twenty-three as the founder of Scale AI, will continue to serve as the company's CEO while also directing Meta's new superintelligence program. The race to develop superintelligence is intensifying among technology giants, with Meta alongside OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, and xAI all dedicating significant resources to this field, each aiming to be the first to achieve a breakthrough in a technology that could fundamentally change humanity's future.
