Opera announced Opera Neon on May 28th, 2025, a new AI browser designed to perform tasks on users' behalf, including shopping, filling out forms, and coding. The Oslo-based Norwegian company describes it as the first "AI agentic browser" that transforms user intent into action, representing years of development work.
Opera Neon features three core capabilities accessed through Chat, Do, and Make buttons on its sidebar. The Chat function provides a chatbot interface for web searching and answering queries, the Do option utilises the Browser Operator AI agent introduced in March for local tasks, whilst the Make feature can create games, websites, code snippets, and reports through text prompts. Henrik Lexow, Opera's Senior AI Product Director, stated that AI can fundamentally change how people use the internet and perform browser-based tasks.
Opera Neon will be available as a premium subscription product, with early adopters able to join the waitlist at www.operaneon.com. The browser's AI workflows operate through cloud-based virtual machines, enabling users to continue work whilst offline and run multiple tasks simultaneously, delivering true agentic multitasking capabilities.
