The World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Future of Jobs Report 2025 projects that around 78 million new jobs could be created globally by 2030, but warns that workforce reskilling remains an urgent challenge. Published in January 2025, the report highlights how artificial intelligence, the green transition, and digital technologies are reshaping labour markets while creating demand for new skills.
According to the report, automation and AI are expected to transform 23% of existing jobs within the next five years, with the healthcare and technology sectors showing the fastest growth. WEF data indicates that 60% of workers will require some form of reskilling or upskilling to adapt to these changes. Globally, the most in-demand competencies will include digital literacy, problem-solving, and AI-related expertise.
The key takeaway is clear: while 78 million new jobs represent a major opportunity, the lack of large-scale training programmes risks exacerbating labour market tensions. The WEF stresses that governments and businesses must immediately develop comprehensive skill-building strategies to ensure that the workforce is prepared to fill these roles by 2030.
