Telus has launched Canada’s first fully sovereign AI Factory in Rimouski, Quebec, enabling Canadian businesses to develop and deploy AI capabilities while ensuring that all data remains under Canadian jurisdiction. The facility is designed to strengthen digital sovereignty and support the country’s innovation ecosystem.
Built on Telus’ data centre infrastructure, the AI Factory guarantees that sensitive corporate and governmental data stays within Canada during model training and deployment. The initiative reflects a growing global trend toward sovereign cloud and AI solutions, driven by compliance and data security requirements. According to Telus, the Rimouski AI Factory also boosts the local economy by creating jobs and fostering regional development.
In the long term, the project provides Canada with AI infrastructure that simultaneously ensures competitiveness, robust data protection, and national sovereignty. This positions the Canadian technology sector to compete internationally while operating on its own terms.
