Nearly half of American managers are employing artificial intelligence to make critical personnel decisions, while 78% of employees express concern about this practice. According to research conducted by ResumeBuilder.com between June 14-20, 2025, 48% of managers use AI tools to determine who gets promoted or terminated. The survey, which questioned 782 middle and senior managers, highlights the proliferation of AI in workplace decision-making.
The research indicates that managers primarily use AI systems to analyse productivity (83%), skills (69%), and contributions to company goals (58%). Among managers who employ AI, 90% find these tools reliable, and 42% claim the technology has helped avoid biased decisions. Among Fortune 500 company managers, the AI adoption rate is even higher at 63%. Despite the growing prevalence of AI-based evaluations, a significant portion of employees doubt these systems' fairness. 78% of surveyed managers reported that their employees worry about AI-driven assessments. 49% of managers also acknowledged that AI sometimes draws incorrect conclusions about worker performance, underscoring the importance of human review. According to the survey, AI tools have already been integrated into workplace evaluation processes at 43% of companies in 2025.
