Anthropic has signed a term sheet for a $10 billion funding round at a $350 billion valuation, marking the AI startup's third major capital raise within a year. Coatue and Singapore sovereign wealth fund GIC are leading the financing. The Claude maker last raised a $13 billion Series F round at a $183 billion valuation three months ago, meaning this raise nearly doubles the AI firm's value in less than a quarter.

In March, Anthropic secured $3.5 billion at a $61.5 billion valuation, demonstrating an extraordinary trajectory that has seen the company's worth increase more than fivefold within ten months. This round would be separate from the $15 billion Nvidia and Microsoft recently committed to invest in Anthropic, a circular deal that would see Anthropic buying $30 billion of compute capacity from Microsoft Azure running on Nvidia's chips. As of August, Anthropic said its run-rate revenue has reached more than $5 billion, up from roughly $1 billion at the beginning of the year, reflecting a fivefold increase that has fuelled investor confidence. The company expects to break even for the first time in 2028, whilst maintaining aggressive expansion plans that require substantial infrastructure investment to remain competitive in the frontier AI race, and Anthropic is preparing for a potential IPO this year alongside its main rival OpenAI.

The rapid succession of funding rounds underscores the intensifying competition amongst AI developers to secure capital for compute-intensive model development. This raise nearly doubles the AI firm's value from September's $183 billion valuation, positioning Anthropic amongst the most valuable private technology companies globally. The company's revenue growth from approximately $1 billion to over $5 billion within a single year demonstrates the commercial viability driving its escalating valuations, whilst the expected 2028 break-even timeline reflects the substantial ongoing investment required in frontier AI development.
